This weeks tip, from the very talented Maggie, is
HOW TO MAKE APERTURE CARDS WITH PUNCHES! :)
First some basics... An aperture in a 5inch square card.
You need a card blank and a punch. I've used 4cm square punch.
Place your card blank and a punch as in the photo and punch.
Remember to double check if your punching the front or the back of a card! Below is what you should have.
Next I'll show you how to make 3 apertures in a slimline card. I've used a card blank measuring 21x22.5cm, scored as in the photo @ 7.5cm and again @ 7.5cm from each side). You also need 2.5cm square punch.
Next you need to fold the card starting from the left. Fold it once and place the punch as in the photo.
Punch and place the punch as in the photo.
Punch again and place as in the photo.
That is what you should get. Now you can use some acetate, stick it to the card blank with double sided tape.
Next put some 3D foam double sided tape as in the photo.
Add some punched out shapes or some glitter.
Fold the card and voila! Job done! :)
A sample of what you can make once you have an aperture card ready.
And another one!
This one is made in a similar way to the first square card. The only thing you do is punch once close to the left and then punch second time moving the punch to the right.

Merry Christmas and Happy 2011!

Maggie- spectacular job on the tutorial! Ladies your creations are all fab.
ReplyDeleteHappy Holidays to all of you.
Great tip and creations! Your challenge blog won an award over at my blog! Head on over and get the rules and badge!
ReplyDeleteMy tip is to save all those plastic 'wrappings' the ones that are kind of hard plastic and terrible to get into. The ones that printer ink cartridges, craft tools and such come in. Also if you have a laminator and have extra that went through the laminator, save it. These pieces of plastic can be used for a lot of projects, anywhere you might need a piece of acetate, you can use alcohol inks on them and they can be embossed with folders run through your Cuttlebug or other embossing machine. Great idea to recycle!
ReplyDeleteThank you Leanne for bringing me here wow! Awesome blog, tips and creations!!!! New follower, player and added your badge in my fav challenge blogs :)))
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas xox

Brilliant tutorials on this site. I shall bookmark it and look in frequently.
ReplyDeleteThanks for a great challenge and Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteI have a different way to store your ribbons on spools. There is a photo of my ribbon area on my blog ☺ Sandi's Tip!
ReplyDeleteI put my spools on a dowel, and suspended the dowel from a closet rod with cable ties. Secure the ends of the dowel with clothes pins. Very easy to do.
When printing out digital images I don't just do one or two. I prefer to fill the whole sheet of A4. If you add a couple of generic images you can keep them handy for future card making. Also, if you print 2 the same, it doesn't take much more time to colour 2 images the same as it does 1 and you can keep it ready for a later card when you need something a bit quicker.
ReplyDeleteGreat challenge and tip. I've included a tip in my blog posting (see my submission - Shelley D - to this challenge above) that is fitting for this week's challenge. You can save a lot of money by only buying embellishments (ribbons, brads, flowers, etc) in clear or white and then using your Copic markers to colour them as needed.
ReplyDeleteWhen you need a fixative for something like pastels, use hair spray. It works great.
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite tips is to use a floss threader to thread ribbon, twine, embroidery floss etc. through buttons. A floss threader is used when you have braces and need to floss, it is a loop that is much like fishing line, but a bit stiffer. They are sold in drug stores in a handy dandy little plastic holder, with several in a pack and are very inexpensive. Just thread the ribbon throught the flosser and thread that through the hole in the button, pull it through and you are set. No more trying trouble threading through little holes.
ReplyDeleteHere's my tip: Cut a panel of aluminum foil and place it in an embossing folder, then run it through your cuttlebug for an awesome embossed metallic background.
ReplyDeletethis is my first time playing along-fun blog I will definitely be back. my tip is on embellishing masculine cards-since ribbon is a little "girly" you can use border punches and layer them with other colors. it gives a really nice look.
ReplyDeleteMy tip this week is when trying to do double layers with border punches, try to cut your pieces a little larger than you need to give yourself some flexibility in layering and lining up. You can always trim off the extra. I find this actually saves me in the long run because otherwise I am having to keep redoing it if it isn't just right.
ReplyDeleteMy tip this week is a favorite of mine...jazz up your plain brads by dipping them in glue and then in glitter color of your choice or adding stickles to them
ReplyDeleteGreat tips by everyone, thank you! My tip for this week is seasonal, stock up on all sorts of sparkly ribbons now, when all the Christmas gift wrapping bits are reduced to clear. Obviously, if they have Santa and snowmen all over them you may be a little limited in how you can use them, but MANY MANY Christmas gift wrap ribbons come with sparkly swirld or stripes or dots and they can all be used for any occasion, are much cheaper than fancy fabric ribbons and work just as wel on cards :)
ReplyDeleteI've posted a little tip with my card that I've linked. For my corners, I just cut a one inch sqrare of papper and then cut it in half, corner to corner with decorative scizzors or a border punch, add a little bling and there you have it!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance to play along!
Awesome tutorial and all the samples ideas are beautiful! Happy New Year...hugs ~S~
ReplyDeleteGreat challenge and tips here, my tip is if you love the look of gem swirls on your cards but cant afford the price of them then do what i do, either download, draw or stamp a flourish, place over wher u want it to be on ur card then make tiny holes with ur pokey tool along the flourish each a couple of mm apart depending on size of ur gems, then remove template and attach ur gems eith pre sticky ones or with a tiny blob of glue on each dot, and voila an homemade flourish at afraction of the price, i always do thes now instead of buying them and theyre just as elegant, hugs and more, love charlee xx
ReplyDeleteGreat tutorial and fab DT creations!
ReplyDeleteMy top tip is that you don't need any fancy gadgets to pick up your little gems and fidgety bits with - just use a cocktail stick with some blutack on it
What a great tutorial on aperture cards! My tip is for masculine cards. I always like to add ribbon but for men not so much but using twine (its greatly under rated) and a button or brads its a great embellishment!
ReplyDeleteGreat challenge! My tip is to keep off cuts of white card (that you use to stamp onto or print out your digi's) and then when you want to colour your image you can test your markers on the off cuts to make sure you have the exact colours you need to match your project. Hugs, Denise x
ReplyDeleteAwesome Challenge! The inspiration from the DT is wonderful! Also the inspiration from the other entrants is amazing! Thanks for being so great! Happy Creating! Sara
