Top Tip Tuesday Challenge 65 - Tipper Week!

It's a Tipper Week!

Good Top Tip Tuesday Morning to you all.
We hope you are all enjoying the Holiday preparations and you are finding the time to do all of those 'little' jobs we like to get done beforehand - I'm sure the days are getting shorter and the 'to-do lists' longer!

Thanks to all who joined us last week - so many lucky people out there are going to receive some absolutely beautiful Gifts!

You may have noticed we have announced the Winners a little differently this week.
We haven't posted a separate post - Samantha has added the winners to the side-bar.
This makes it quicker for Samantha and myself when we write the posts as well as making sure you are able to see the winners whenever you come here - they wont sink to the bottom of the page now ;) ...I've just to work out how to do this now too ;)

We'd love to know what you think of this - let us know, we'd love your thoughts :)

Don't forget to pop over to the Top Tippers blog and read up on what we have decided as the best one this week.

This week we have another simple challenge.
Unfortunately this is the last one before Christmas so let's see the rest of your...

What a fantastic reason to join in our challenge this week.....

Milk Carton Log Cabin Ornament Tutorial

Supplies Needed:
Wood grain embossing plate or folder
Acetate sheet
Adhesive
X-ACTO Knife
Adhesive 3D foam dots
Embellishments of your choice

If you don't already have a milk carton template, you can download one here at Mirkwood Designs for free.
1.)  Begin with stock paper of choice that measures at least 6" x 9" (15.2 cm x 22.9 cm)
Apply a small amount of adhesive to the milk carton template and stick this onto the cardstock.
Cut around the perimeter of the template to match the shape.
Once template shape is cut out, keep the template on the cardstock and cut, fold and crease as directed on template itself.
2.) Remove template and now lets get to the fun stuff.
Punch out a 1.5" (3.8cm) square as your window template.
Place this in the center of each quadrant and cut out with an X-ACTO knife as shown above.
3.)  Add thin strips of like cardstock to the back of milk carton to form the slats of your window.
4.)  Run your milk carton through your embossing machine with the wood grain texture plate or embossing folder and it should look like this.
Flip the carton so the front is facing you and "stain" the cabin.
I used, Creamy Caramel, Close To Cocoa and then wisps of white ink for a snowy rustic look.
5.)  Flipping the carton back over now, punch out four 2" (5.1cm) squares of acetate.
Apply adhesive around the exterior of windows and adhere the acetate squares.
Place foam dots above and below the window for the next step.
6.)  I googled "Log Cabin Christmas" and found 4 images that I really liked that looked like cozy Christmas living rooms and saved them to my desktop.  Opening up whatever photo program you prefer, resize your images to 2" x 2" (5.1cm x 5.1cm).
Cut these images out and adhere them onto the foam dots.
Which when flipped over will look like this
7.)  Apply adhesive to where it indicates on the template and assemble the cabin like so
8.)  Now it's up to you to embellish your little log cabin milk carton ornament!
Here's a peek at a couple other sides
I recreated my impression of snow with Acrylic Dimensional Writer and  the trees draping around the window with faux moss; also accented with "snow" as well as the red Dutch Shutters that I cut and scored for more dimension.

9.) Once finished, punch a hole in the top of the carton, attach your hook or loop and now you're done!
Well, that's my lengthy but hopefully inspirational holiday tutorial.
Hope you've enjoyed it.
Happy Stamping...
Lisa xx

Wasn't that fabulous - Thanks Lisa :)

Now some inspiration from the TTT DT Team - and of course their Top Tips.
Look out for some gorgeous images from Karen's doodles......

Top Tip:
When creating a card why not make your own sentiments on your computer using different fonts, they can then be as personal as you like and as small or large as you want!

Top Tip:
To add delicate detail to your project use nail art gems, they are small and pretty.

Top Tip:
Using organza ribbon can add to your design without hiding your image.

Top Tip:
Don't overdo the embellishments on shaped cards as the shape adds interest by itself.

Top Tip:
For a more snowy glittery texture use both flocking and Star Dust Stickles.

Top Tip:
Don't store your dye-based rainbow ink pads on their sides. The colors will run together. Store them upside down.

Top Tip:
Only show portion of the circle sentiment as I have done here when you don't have enough room to show it all.
Loving this new found Red Copic color combo: R59,R29,R05 (New to me at least!)

Top Tip:
If your image depicts movement, allow elements to move off the page in order to show motion.

Top Tip:
To make sparkly embossing powder add some fine glitter to a clear powder.

Top Tip:
Use lots of layers on your tags...They make for great ornaments after the gift is opened.

Deneen using Christmas Wonder
Top Tip:
To find your Ciao Copics easier, use a hole punch and punch circle's from adhesive backed paper (like you use for white labels), write the letter and number on it and attach to the end of your Ciao marker cap. You can still see the colour of the cap, but now you know exactly what letter/number it is at a glance as well.

WOW!

We'd love to see your last few Christmas projects now - and don't forget to link those Top Tips too - We're not called Top Tip Tuesday for nothing!
See you all soon - Carol x
